Velaa Private Island is renowned as the pinnacle of luxury in the Maldives — once praised as “ultra-exclusive, beyond luxury.” The entire island features fewer than 50 villas and residences, offering guests an unparalleled sense of privacy.

From Malé Airport, guests are welcomed into a luxurious private lounge before boarding a seaplane (shared or private options via Velaa) for a 45-minute flight to Noonu Atoll. For those arriving by private jet, they can land at Maafaru Airport and transfer to the island via speedboat or a shorter seaplane ride.

Located approximately 187 km north of the capital, Fushivelavaru Island in Noonu Atoll is surrounded by turquoise waters, vibrant coral reefs, and calm seas. The island’s shape resembles a turtle’s head — “Velaa” in the Dhivehi language — symbolizing a deep connection with the surrounding nature.

The design embraces “polite luxury” — refined, understated elegance that blends Maldivian heritage with contemporary sophistication, developed by architect Petr Kolář. Natural materials such as Jordanian stone, Borneo wood, and hand-crafted Italian lighting create an atmosphere that’s warm, luxurious, and deeply connected to the sea. Among the 47 accommodations, 18 are overwater villas, with 4 ultra-private residences — including NIKA by Patricia Urquiola, which spans over 1,300 m² with minimalist yet exquisite interiors.

Velaa features three main restaurants and two bars:

• Aragu – the signature overwater restaurant serving contemporary European cuisine with Asian influences, worthy of Michelin recognition, complemented by the Cru Champagne Lounge next door.

• Tavaru – a unique three-story Teppanyaki tower offering panoramic views of the island and a wine cellar with over 800–1,000 labels. Signature dishes include black cod teriyaki and Kagoshima A5 tenderloin.

• Athiri – an international beachfront buffet offering wood-fired pizzas and creative dishes such as banana blossom-braised lobster and truffle pasta.

• Additionally, Faiy – the health & wellness restaurant – presents a wholesome, plant-based menu focused on detox and physical rejuvenation.

• Bars like AVI (by the pool) and the Beach Bar serve creative cocktails in a beautifully relaxed and chill ambiance.
